A Shift in Perception

This felt like the first real day of lent, and the world reshaped by renunciation felt a bit cleaner and clearer -- set apart by Holy Awareness -- not differing in activity (editing, emailing, sorting, stacking, chauffering, banking, erranding and locking my keys in my car), but definitely in tone. I told the kids my lenten fast -- no computer on while at home with them -- and the evening filled up with goodness: I told Jaelyn stories from history that ranged from the twin rise of industrialism and enlightenment, self-government and new models of wealth and ownership, Adam Smith and Karl Marx, Capitalism and Communism (she loved it all!), and then after bed I snuck off to see There Will Be Blood.
