Revivalism and Hope

Faculty orientation all day yesterday couldn't have been more ripe with oppositions: a new provost who gave the deepest, richest, most theologically and intellectually nuanced exegesis / challenge I've ever heard from an administrator

and

a new president whose core value seems to be "curb appeal" and who hews closely enough to a revivalist evangelicalism to make this former preacher-boy-competitor get the shakes.

But the day ended with a delicious dinner with colleague / friends at 91 & then the film club's screening of the delightful doc, The King of Kong: A Fist Full of Quarters, making for a day that ended much more clearly good than many moments felt.
