When I talk about statistical trends, I see the mean articulated as a line graph situated across a gigantic burnished golden brown sunset, and the line looks more like a dark cloudy approximation. The closer you move to it, the more you realize that there may well be an actual line in the middle of the cloud, but it's impossible to tell because of all the shimmering, snapping and vibrating that's going on inside of the statistical norm.
