Gender Trouble

The title of this post is also the title of a book by Judith Butler, but my day was not, like the book, full of insights about the performative tangles of playing out gender roles. My day was full of several ugly moments where abusive performances of gender seemed to have been unusually cruel to people around me; it does not feel simple or good to inherit the privilege of being a white middle aged male on days like yesterday.
